The Kim Pensyl Group features a dynamic and exciting combination of musical sounds. Pianist, Kim Pensyl, is a prolific jazz recording artist, composer, arranger, and engineer who has twice been named one of Billboard’s Top-20 Contemporary Jazz Artists of the Year. Kim has had four Top-10 albums on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Chart. Professor Kim Pensyl is currently the director of the Commercial Music Production program at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, along with the division head of General Studies.

Vibraphonist, Rusty Burge, brings a unique timbre to the group with his world-class abilities. His musicality combined with his incredible technique shows him to be one of the premier performers on the instrument. Saxophonist, Rick VanMatre, has performed all over the world, in both classical and jazz music. This multi-instrumentalist embraces all aspects of music from an artistic perspective. Aaron Jacobs is an active bassist in Southern Ohio and has performed with countless artists. He plays both the electric and acoustic bass maintaining his sonic signature on his instrument of choice. John Taylor is in high demand as a drummer/percussionist with the ability to play all styles of music with just the right placement of beat. The interplay of this ensemble is a result of the synergy that this collaboration produces.

The group will be performing some of Kim’s music from his earlier recordings and several of his most recent compositions. The evening will premiere a new multi- movement work entitled “The Dream Suite” specially written for the group.

See you there!
